Well, actually there have been several, but this is the time of year when we stop to appreciate one of them in particular.  2000 (+/- a few) years later the lesson has yet to be learned, but I still have hope that it will be someday.  I need to work on this like everyone else: realize that all those “strangers” family, and love everyone to the best of your ability.

Lasting peace to all.

Energy is a contentious matter in our world, both in the competition for control of the world’s finite fuel sources and in the effect that our energy usage has on the global climate. Google’s recent pledge to find a way to produce renewable energy in a way that’s less than the cost of using coal is a step toward reducing the growing problems in the competition for fuel sources and the climate.

As important as any solutions Google may produce is the influence they can have on other large organizations and governments to first acknowledge that implementing alternative methods of powering our society is an immediate and valid concern and then feel the necessity to actively design and implement those methods, due to public awareness and pressure, cost savings and opportunities for profit from the technology, or both.

FreeRice.com is a simple and oddly entertaining website – it presents you with a word and four possible definitions for that word. If you choose the correct word, then 10 grains of rice are donated to hungry people through the UN. The words get harder as you get more of them correct.

FreeRice.com launched on 7 October 2007. Through 3 November 2007, 680,991,930 grains of rice have been donated by web surfers playing their simple little vocab game.

Get smarter and feed hungry people… pass it on.

Anyone who has played civilization knows that it’s much harder to start wars under a working democracy.

While I do not like the idea of consecutive impeachments, the Vice President has tried to undermine the very system of government for which he works. Dennis Kucinich is trying, against large odds, to bring articles of impeachment against the V.P., and I truly think this is a just cause. If you do too, go here and send the following or a similar message to your congressperson. It will take all of 20 seconds, and it will, at the very least, give you the right to complain if it fails.

Congress[man/woman] [name],
Vice President Cheney has worked hard to expand the powers of the executive branch beyond those afforded by the constitution. If we wish to preserve democracy in this country, we must take action against such expansions. Congressman Dennis Kucinich will introduce a resolution on the floor of the House of Representatives on November 6 that will bring articles of impeachment against the Vice President. I urge you to vote No on tabling, Yes on giving impeachment a chance.
Sincerely,
[your name]

This is a blog about peace, and how to effect it in your life each day. We humans have spent considerable mental and physical energy on this subject already, but this blog exists because the goal is not yet attained, and we (conceitedly) feel we have something to offer. The text to be contained herein should not be misconstrued as advice, because we do not presume to know what you should do. We offer these posts simply as things that have worked in our own lives.
